From Holland to Houston: TU Delft Research Presentation & Networking

On March 4, we had the pleasure of hosting an insightful event on coastal flood resilience with Professor Bas Jonkman, Sander van der Geer, and Anne Grooten. They shared Dutch best practices and innovative strategies to protect the Houston-Galveston region from rising waters. The event wrapped up with a networking reception, bringing together members of the Dutch community and local stakeholders.

The engagement and contributions from our speakers and attendees made this event a fantastic exchange of knowledge and ideas. We look forward to continuing the conversation and strengthening Dutch-Texan collaboration on water resilience.

On March 6, we spent a full day of hands-on collaboration at Texas A&M University Galveston, hosted by the Institute for a Disaster Resilient Texas (IDRT). Together with experts from the US Army Corps of Engineers, Texas GLO, and the Gulf Coast Protection District, realistic storm surge barrier designs were explored—incorporating Dutch expertise from TU Delft and Royal HaskoningDHV. A great exchange of ideas focused on this most complex and costly part of the Texas Coastal Protection Plan, with an eye on long-term operations and maintenance.

At NBSO Texas, we are always happy to support companies that see opportunities in the field of water management in Texas. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you would like to explore how your expertise can contribute to the region’s climate resilience efforts.
