In the final week of April, NBSO Texas colleague Anne Sophie traveled to Miami to explore the latest developments in urban mobility. The main highlight of the visit was attending CoMotion Miami, a leading global event where city officials, startups, mobility innovators, and policy leaders gather to shape the future of transportation.
Anne Sophie was joined by Stefan Theunissen from the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Miami, reflecting the strong collaboration between Dutch diplomatic networks in the U.S. The conference showcased bold ideas and practical innovations in areas such as smart infrastructure, micromobility, and sustainable urban design. The energy and creativity on display reinforced the importance of international cooperation in addressing mobility challenges in cities around the world.
Promoting Dutch Expertise
Following the conference, the Dutch delegation took part in a valuable working visit to the Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization (TPO). The visit was supported by two innovative Dutch companies, Scenexus and Movares, who shared their expertise in data-driven planning and sustainable transport solutions. Special thanks go to Peter van Oorschot (Scenexus) and Lennie Siesling (Movares) for their insightful contributions and shared commitment to smarter mobility.
Inspiring Urban Transformation
A particularly inspiring stop on the trip was a visit to The Underline. This transformative project is repurposing the space beneath Miami’s Metrorail into a 10-mile linear park and urban trail. With a focus on walkability, bike-friendliness, and community engagement, The Underline is a powerful example of how public space can be reimagined to support healthier, more connected urban living.
Strengthening Transatlantic Ties
Throughout the week, Anne Sophie and Stefan also had the opportunity to connect with the team at the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Miami. Their hospitality and local insights played a key role in ensuring a productive and engaging visit. The collaboration between NBSO Texas, the consulate, and Dutch companies highlighted the strength of the Dutch-American network in advancing sustainable innovation.
Looking Forward
The visit to Miami provided valuable insights and new connections that will help inform and inspire future mobility efforts. With Dutch companies at the forefront of sustainable urban solutions, NBSO Texas looks forward to continuing its support for transatlantic collaboration and innovation in the mobility sector and beyond.
