Last month, NBSO Texas participated in the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition 2026 in Rotterdam, one of the world’s leading events dedicated to hydrogen and the energy transition. The summit brought together policymakers, industry leaders, ports, and technology developers from across the globe to discuss the future of the hydrogen economy.
A key highlight for NBSO Texas was the session “Transatlantic Hydrogen and Derivatives Trade between the US Gulf Coast and the Netherlands”, held on May 19. The session was co-organized by NBSO Texas, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the United States, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), and the Port of Rotterdam.
The event brought together stakeholders from both sides of the Atlantic to discuss the opportunities and challenges involved in establishing a large-scale hydrogen corridor between the US Gulf Coast and Europe. Discussions focused on market development, infrastructure needs, regulatory frameworks, certification challenges, demand creation, and supply chain scalability.
The session was opened by Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam, and Michel Heijdra, Director-General for Climate and Energy at the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. During the event, NBSO Texas officially presented the first copy of its latest market report: “Building the Transatlantic Clean Hydrogen Corridor: The Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast and the Netherlands.”
The report examines the strategic role that Texas and Louisiana can play in supplying clean hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives to Europe. It analyzes infrastructure developments, regulatory frameworks, market opportunities, and barriers that need to be addressed to enable a competitive and scalable transatlantic hydrogen corridor.

Another important milestone was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NLHydrogen, Gulf Energy Catalyst, and the Port of Rotterdam, marking a shared commitment to advancing transatlantic hydrogen and derivatives trade and further exploring the corridor’s potential.
NBSO Texas would like to thank all speakers, panelists, partners, and attendees who contributed to making the session a success. The strong attendance and active discussions demonstrated the growing interest in strengthening energy cooperation between the Netherlands and the US gulf coast.
Beyond the session itself, the World Hydrogen Summit provided an excellent opportunity to engage with stakeholders from across the hydrogen value chain, gain insights into the latest market developments, and further strengthen the Dutch-American network working toward a low-carbon energy future.
As hydrogen markets continue to evolve, NBSO Texas remains committed to supporting Dutch companies interested in opportunities in Texas and the broader US Gulf Coast region, while facilitating transatlantic collaboration that can accelerate the development of international hydrogen supply chains.
