Two Dutch Hydrogen Missions Visit Texas

This November, NBSO Texas welcomed two Dutch hydrogen delegations to Houston and the Gulf Coast region. Their visits highlighted the growing strategic importance of clean hydrogen infrastructure and storage innovation, knowledge exchange, and transatlantic cooperation between the Netherlands and Texas.

The missions began the Texas part of their visit with a joint Energy Networking Reception, connecting with more than 120 representatives from Dutch and Texan industry, policy, research, and energy hub organizations. The strong turnout and active discussions reinforced the collaborative tone that had already characterized the earlier part of the missions.

  • The RVO Innovation Mission, led by Jorg Gigler of TKI New Has, consisted of a delegation of the Dutch companies (Selmers BV, Strohm, HyExchange, Hydrogen Architects), knowledge institutions and government representatives from the Dutch ministries of Climate & Green Growth, Foreign Affairs, and Economic Affairs. After an initial stop in Canada, the group traveled to Houston for a deep dive into the region’s hydrogen policy and technology landscape. Highlights included an ecosystem introduction at Greentown Labs and the ION, a hydrogen infrastructure and storage roundtable led by the Gulf Energy Catalyst, and visits to Air Products and the University of Houston’s Energy Transition Institute, offering insight into storage, pipeline developments, and (L)H2 applications.
  • The other mission, led by the City and Port of Rotterdam focused on factfinding and trade. With Vice Mayor Robert Simons as delegation leader, they combined a program in Louisiana with several days in Texas. The Rotterdam delegation met with Louisiana port authorities and regional hydrogen developers before continuing to Houston, further strengthening the long-standing ties between Rotterdam and he Gulf Coast. In Texas, the group met with several energy majors for in-depth sessions, toured a hydrogen production facility, and joined an engaging roundtable at the Greater Houston Partnership Center for Houston’s Future. On their way through Southeast Texas, they also stopped in the City of Nederland to meet with Mayor Jeff Darby and his team.

NBSO Texas extends a warm thank you to all partners along the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast for their collaboration and hospitality. We look forward to building on the momentum of these missions and support further Dutch-Texas cooperation at CERAweek in Houston in March 2026 and the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam in May 2026.
